About TeXShop For MAC

TeXShop, a TeX previewer on OS X, is written in Cocoa. TeXShop uses PDF as a native file format on OS X. This means that TeXShop uses "pdftex” and "pdflatex" instead of "tex" and typeset. These programs are part of the standard teTeX distribution and produce PDF output, not DVI output.

TeXShop uses TeX Live. This is a standard distribution for Tex programs maintained and maintained by the TeX Users Group. It can be used on Mac OS X, Windows, Linux and other Unix machines. The distribution includes tex and latex, dvips and tex fonts. It also contains cyrillic fonts and almost all other programs and supporting file that are commonly used in TeX. The MacTeX TeXnical Group of the TeX Users Group maintains the most recent version of this distribution. It is available under the "Obtaining” tab.

Version 3 of TeXShop requires System 10.7 (Lion). TeXShop 2 is also available. It requires System 10.4 Tiger. However, System 10.5 Leopard (Leopard), is strongly recommended. This fixes many bugs in Apple's PDFKit software, which is heavily used in TeXShop. TeXShop 1.43 should be used by users on systems 10.2 and 10.3, and TeXShop 1.19 for those using systems 10.0 or 10.1. Both versions are available on this website.

TeXShop is free to download under the GPL public licence.
